Nicolas Torre Rises to Police Major General
NICOLAS TORRE – The Chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has been promoted to the rank of Police Major General.
Torre III is a high-ranking police officer currently serving as the Director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP). He graduated from the Philippine National Police Academy in 1993. Throughout his career, he has held key positions in several PNP divisions, including the Samar Provincial Police Office, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), and the Davao Region Police Office (PRO-11).
Torre made headlines during his time as QCPD Chief due to his controversial handling of the 2023 Welcome Rotonda road rage case involving ex-cop Wilfredo Gonzales. He later issued a public apology and resigned following backlash. In 2024, he led a high-profile police operation to arrest Apollo Quiboloy in Davao, which drew criticism from city officials and prompted a Senate investigation.

Despite controversies, Torre continued to serve in critical roles, including Director of the PNP’s Communications and Electronics Service. Earlier this year, he led the enforcement of an ICC arrest warrant against former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Torre III, the Chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), has been promoted to the rank of Police Major General.
