Will Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Run for President in 2028?

SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that the Philippines keeps on sinking as per “the way that we are going right now”.

Since Vice Pres. Duterte resigned from being the secretary of DepEd (Department of Education), the Filipinos witnessed a deteriorating relationship between her and Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Their tandem was victorious in the 2022 Elections and they ran under the platform of “unity”.

However, with the way that things are going now, visible, the President and Vice President have not abided by their platform. There has been several instances when the Vice President threw tirades against the President like rating him 1 out of 10 with regards to his governance.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos earned a lot of criticisms following the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The Chief Executive was slammed for allegedly committing a huge betrayal for handling over a Filipino citizen to a foreign entity. Malacañang defended that the case of Duterte is allegedly different considering the accusations against him.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay on Monday. He just arrived from Hong Kong when the Philippine National Police arrested him. He was detained at Villamor Air Base.

During his detention, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte reportedly said that his arrest could lead to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s presidential win. He stressed that she may be president tomorrow or for a long-term but his arrest may lead her to be president.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is currently in the Hague, Netherlands where former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was brought to face the International Criminal Court. Duterte recently appeared remotely before the Pre-Trial Chamber of the ICC.

At the Hague, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was asked if she will run for president in the 2028 Elections. Based on a report on Inquirer, the Vice President responded with a question.

“Do we still have a country by 2028?” she said.

According to the Vice President, she really does not know considering the current situation of the Philippines. Based on the report, she stressed that the country allegedly keeps on sinking.

“The way that we are going right now, hindi ko alam, palubog ng palubog ng palubog,” Duterte said.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said former Pres. Duterte wants her to come home to the Philippines immediately and not leave the country. According to her, she will just talk to the legal team of her father and return to the country.
