Ogie Diaz Reacts to OFW Remittance Boycott
OGIE DIAZ – The entertainment personality and talent manager shared his thoughts on the growing call for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to stop sending money home as a form of protest. This movement, backed by supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte, aims to pressure the government by temporarily cutting off financial support from Filipinos working abroad.
While Diaz acknowledged the campaign, he questioned whether it was a practical move. He pointed out that many OFWs have families in the Philippines who rely on their remittances for daily needs, education, and medical expenses. Although the protest may have a strong message, he warned that it could bring real hardship to loved ones left behind.
“If you can bear not sending money to your families who depend on you, then go ahead,” Diaz said, stressing the serious consequences of such a decision.

He also mentioned singer Jimmy Bondoc, who encouraged people to stop betting on the lottery starting March 28 in support of the movement. Responding with sarcasm, Diaz suggested that if people are willing to make sacrifices like giving up their lottery bets, they should also consider refraining from spreading fake news, using fake accounts, and engaging in corruption.
Diaz’s statement indirectly pointed out inconsistencies in the movement, urging supporters to reflect on their actions beyond financial protests. His remarks sparked discussion among netizens, with some agreeing that remittances are a lifeline for many Filipino families, while others supported the protest as a form of political expression.

The call for zero remittance remains a heated topic, with some OFWs willing to participate while others fear the impact on their families. Diaz’s comments serve as a reminder to carefully consider the consequences before making drastic decisions that could affect those who depend on their hard-earned money.
