Julie’s Bakeshop Reaches Out to Kim Chiu Over the Covered Face Controversy
KIM CHIU – The It’s Showtime host shared a letter she received from the management of Julie’s Bakeshop after a branch in Davao went viral for covering her face on a tarpaulin.
The issue began when Kim read the show’s opening spiels on March 12, mentioning the word “Dasurv.” This occurred amid the controversy surrounding the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest order for former President Rodrigo Duterte. Some people accused Kim of making a statement about the situation.

Kim quickly defended herself, stating that she was simply reading the script given to her. However, backlash followed, with Duterte supporters threatening to boycott her movie My Love Will Make You Disappear with Paulo Avelino. The situation affected Kim deeply, and she even became emotional during a mall show in Cebu.

Despite the controversy, Kim received a letter from the bakeshop’s management, which she shared on her Instagram stories. The company expressed its appreciation for her and assured her that it would address the issue regarding the tarpaulin.
