Recently, Jerche Amada, a Facebook user, shared a heartbreaking story of an elderly pedicab driver has touched the hearts of many after he got into an accident while trying to earn a living despite his age. The post went viral online and elicited emotional reactions from netizens.

The senior citizen, identified as 69-year-old Tatay, was wandering the streets when his pedicab suddenly broke down, almost causing a serious injury. A concerned passerby witnessed the incident and stopped to check on him. The elderly man is still working despite his age to work to afford food.
At an age when he should be resting and enjoying the fruits of his labor, Tatay is still out in the streets, struggling just to survive. His story sheds light on the harsh reality that many elderly individuals in the country face.
Instead of being cared for, they are often forced to continue working just to put food on the table.

Unfortunately, Tatay doesn’t even own the pedicab, he rents it for P300 a day, making it even harder for him to earn enough to cover his needs.
The incident shows the struggles that many senior citizens go through, emphasizing the lack of support systems for those who have worked hard all their lives.
Many netizens have expressed their frustration over the system that fails to support elderly workers like Tatay.
Here is the full post:
“On my way to work, I saw Tatay, a pedicab driver, who almost got his face sliced after his pedicab literally broke down in the middle of the road.
Tatay is 69 years old. I asked him why he’s still working, and he replied, ‘Para naay makaon’ (So there’s something to eat), and that hit me hard.
At an age where he should be resting and enjoying the fruits of his labor, he’s still out there, struggling to survive. It’s heartbreaking to see how life can be so unforgiving—how our elderly are left with no choice but to keep working just to have food on the table. This shouldn’t be the reality for someone who’s already given so much of his life to hard work. Our system has failed him, and countless others like him. When will we finally care for those who need it the most?
P.S. I took Tatay to their place to ask for help from the owner of the pedicab. It turns out he was just renting it for 300 per day.”
