Comelec Invites Showtime Contestant for Voter Education
COMELEC – The Commission on Elections has responded to the viral remarks of Heart Aquino, a contestant on the “It’s Showtime Sexy Babe” segment, who admitted to having little knowledge about the poll body and not being a registered voter.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia emphasized that the commission understands her situation and recognizes that many young Filipinos may share similar levels of awareness regarding the electoral process.
Garcia stated that Comelec is taking this as an opportunity to enhance voter education. He announced that they have invited Aquino for a guided tour of the commission to educate her on its role and functions. “We fully understand her. Maaring madami pa na katulad niya na kabataan o mga Pilipino. It is our solemn duty to explain who we are and what we are doing,” he said. He further stressed that Comelec sees this as a shortcoming that needs to be addressed, highlighting the importance of voter education in fostering a more informed electorate.

The contestant’s admission, made during the Q&A portion of the show’s weekly finals, quickly went viral, sparking discussions online. When asked about her message for Comelec, Aquino candidly responded that she was not well-informed about the commission. The reaction from the show’s hosts, particularly Vice Ganda and Kim Chiu, reflected their surprise and concern. Vice Ganda remarked that her response was “bothersome,” while Kim encouraged her to register and participate in the next elections.

Aquino further explained that her limited knowledge stemmed from a lack of exposure, stating that her household does not have a television and that Comelec-related topics rarely appear on her social media feed. When asked who was responsible for her lack of awareness, she admitted with a laugh, “Ako po.”
The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many netizens expressing disappointment and concern about political disengagement among the youth. Some saw it as a reflection of a broader issue in civic education, while others emphasized the importance of personal initiative in staying informed about national affairs.
