Angel Locsin’s Father Dies at 98
ANGEL COLMENARES – The father of Angel Locsin passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the age of 98.
Mario Colmenares, a talent manager and concert producer who is also his nephew, announced his passing through a social media post featuring an art card with Mr. Colmenares’ photo, birthdate (February 17, 1927), and date of passing. His remains are at Heritage Park in Taguig City. The family has requested privacy while expressing gratitude for the condolences they have received.
Mr. Colmenares was a former swimmer and a member of the Philippine team that won a bronze medal in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay at the 1954 Asian Games. He passed down his passion for swimming to his daughter, training Angel Locsin from a young age. Under his guidance, she became a national swimming champion at 11 and won multiple medals in an international competition in Hong Kong.

In a 2007 interview on ABS-CBN’s The Buzz, Mr. Colmenares expressed his pride in Angel’s achievements, highlighting her kindness and generosity. He often reminded her to keep improving herself, emphasizing the importance of education and diversifying her interests beyond showbiz. He believed that happiness did not solely depend on wealth but also on health and contentment in life.
Mr. Colmenares had been visually impaired for many years. In the same interview, he shared how Angel once scheduled an eye procedure for him, hopeful that new medical advancements could restore his sight. Unfortunately, the treatment was not suitable for his condition. Angel was heartbroken, wishing he could see her on television, but Mr. Colmenares reassured her that he was already proud and happy.

His last public appearance was in a 2022 YouTube video with Angel and her husband, Neil Arce, where they shared lighthearted family moments. He also spoke about his happiness when Neil asked for Angel’s hand in marriage, advising his daughter to cherish love and keep faith at the center of her relationship.
With his passing, many wonder if Angel Locsin, who has stepped away from the public eye, will make a reappearance as she mourns the loss of her father.
