Alynna Velasquez Opens Up About Hajji Alejandro’s Illness and Family Conflict
ALYNNA VELASQUEZ – The singer shared her experience supporting her long-time partner, Hajji Alejandro, through his battle with stage 4 colon cancer. She also explained her decision to leave his home after his surgery, considering the needs of his family.
In February 2025, Hajji underwent surgery after being diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. According to Alynna, the news shocked him, but he remained composed. She shared that Hajji had been active and maintained a healthy lifestyle, making the diagnosis unexpected.
Following the operation, Hajji initially showed signs of recovery. However, after a few days, he suffered seizures and was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) due to an infection. Doctors struggled to determine the source of the infection, leading to further complications. Thankfully, after a week, he was taken off the respirator and began speaking again. On Alynna’s birthday, her prayer was answered—Hajji was moved out of the ICU. He has since been undergoing therapy at home, using a walker as he rebuilds his strength.

News of Hajji’s illness spread after a Facebook post from his school alumni group went viral. Alynna denied leaking the information to the media but admitted informing Hajji’s best friend. The post led to public prayers and well-wishes, but his family blamed Alynna for the unwanted attention.
Additionally, a video of Hajji’s mother singing to him while he rested also circulated online. Alynna clarified that she only shared it within the family and did not expect it to go public. Despite the backlash, she expressed gratitude for the prayers that helped Hajji recover.

After Hajji’s surgery, tensions arose between Alynna and his family. She felt their opinions on his care often clashed, and chose to step back so they could look after him without conflict. She emphasized that, as his girlfriend—not his wife—his family had the right to be with him.
Alynna clarified that she was not forced to leave but felt it was the right decision, especially after a private nurse was hired. As of now, she and Hajji have no communication, and she is focusing on returning to work while remaining available if needed.
