“Sinampal Ko Yung Badjao” Viral Post Sparks Online Debate

Viral Post About Slapping a Begging Badjao Goes Viral and Sparks Debate

“SINAMPAL KO YUNG BADJAO” – A netizen’s post about an encounter with a begging Badjao has sparked a lot of discussion online.

According to the post, the netizen was riding a tricycle when a Badjao suddenly approached, asking for money. Before turning to them, the beggar first begged from a woman sitting beside them. When the woman refused, the beggar allegedly pulled her hair, but she did not react.

When the Badjao turned to the netizen, the netizen simply said, “Wala,” but noticed that the beggar was about to spit at them. Before that could happen, the netizen reacted by slapping the Badjao—though not too hard. When the beggar attempted to spit again, the netizen pulled the beggar’s hair until the tricycle started moving. As the vehicle drove away, the netizen made a rude hand gesture at the beggar, who began crying. Meanwhile, the woman beside them looked shocked by what had just happened.

The netizen admitted being unsure to feel guilty about what happened, saying, “Pinapakiramdaman ko ang emotions ko, pero wala eh. Sobrang nakakainis na dumadami na naman ang Badjao sa lugar namin, eh wala naman dati.”

A few days later, the netizen saw the same began again, but this time, the Badjao didn’t ask for money. Instead, the latter made a rude hand gesture back. The netizen said he wanted to feel sorry for them, but his frustration was stronger.

The post quickly went viral and received mixed reactions. Some agreed that aggressive beggars can be difficult to deal with, making it hard to remain calm. Others shared similar experiences, like a worker who gave a two-peso coin, only to have it thrown back at them—leading them to hit the Badjao with an umbrella. Some found the post “satisfying,” while others argued that the government should address the situation. A few warned that reacting with force could escalate the issue, potentially leading to more serious problems.
