Court Questions Quiboloy’s Campaign Video
PASTOR APOLLO QUIBOLOY – A court in Pasig City has ordered the camp of the religious leader and senatorial aspirant to explain why his pre-recorded campaign video was aired without the court’s approval.
Quiboloy, the leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) and a senatorial candidate in the upcoming May elections, is currently detained at Pasig City Jail on human trafficking charges.
The video in question was shown during a KOJC campaign rally on February 9, 2025, and was later uploaded to the Facebook page of SMNI News Channel the following day. The Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 159, presided over by Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa, has given Quiboloy and his legal counsel, Atty. Israelito Torreon, five days to provide an explanation. The court stated that the video may have violated existing guidelines regarding Quiboloy’s communication while in detention.

The airing of the video has drawn criticism, with some lawmakers questioning whether Quiboloy is receiving special treatment. Gabriela Party-list Representative Arlene Brosas pointed out the apparent disparity in how detainees are treated, stating, “Kapag mahirap, kahit dumalaw ang pamilya, pahirapan. Pero kapag makapangyarihan, may privilege pang mangampanya mula sa kulungan.”
In response, Atty. Torreon clarified during a recent press briefing that while the court denied their request for Quiboloy to personally appear in interviews, it allegedly allowed him to communicate with his supporters through pre-recorded messages on specific dates—February 9, 11, and 13.

The controversy has sparked debate on whether Quiboloy’s campaign activities from behind bars violate legal protocols or if he was granted permission under special circumstances. The court’s decision, following the required explanation from Quiboloy’s camp, will determine the next course of action.
Meanwhile, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy is currently detained at Pasig City Jail as legal proceedings continue against him. He is running for senator under the PDP-Laban party.
