Piel Morena Reveals Why She Quit Showbiz After Three Years

Why Piel Morena Left Showbiz

PIEL MORENA – The former actress, known for starring in FLT Films from 1998 to 2001, revealed the reasons behind her departure from showbiz.

In an interview, Piel reflected on her acting career and experiences in the entertainment industry. She admitted that her life was highly controlled, especially under her mentor and producer, Rose Flaminiano, whom she referred to as “Mommy Rose.” Living under strict supervision made it difficult for her to have personal freedom.

The turning point came when she fell in love with a 33-year-old married woman while she was only 20. Although the woman was in an unhappy marriage, their relationship was complicated. Facing pressure from both her career and personal life, Piel decided it was time to leave showbiz.

After quitting in 2001, Piel struggled to find work. Many assumed she was wealthy because of her films, but in reality, industry politics led to her being blacklisted by her former producer, preventing her from returning to acting. She was also prohibited from using the name “Piel Morena,” as it was created for her by FLT Films.

To survive, Piel took on various jobs, including working in Japan and even becoming an Uber driver in the Philippines. She later moved to Germany, where she is now a permanent resident. Despite the hardships, she pursued further studies and found love again.

Piel, whose real name is Baby Rose Romano Cortez, got her screen name from the song “Piel Morena” by Mexican singer Thalia. She was launched as an actress in 1998 through the film Ibigin Mo Ako, Mahalin Mo Ako. Throughout her career, she starred in several films, including Campus Scandal and Senswal: Bakit Masarap ang Bawal.

Although she has stepped away from showbiz, Piel told PEP.ph that she remains open to new opportunities and hopes to one day return to the entertainment industry.
