MALACAÑANG – The Palace spoke on President Bongbong Marcos not calling a special session over the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

Following the decision of the House over her impeachment, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte only uttered a prayer for the Philippines. She also thanked her supporters and assured them that the victory will be on the Filipino people.

Individuals coming from the different walks of life were behind the first three impeachment complaints against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. There were civic society leaders, religious members including Catholic priests, and lawyers who signed the complaints.

Prior to an impeachment complaint being filed against Duterte, Pres. Bongbong Marcos claimed that he is against it. According to the Chief Executive, it will only tie up the Senate and the House of Representatives and will not do good on the Filipinos.

However, amid the pronouncement of the President, impeachment complaints were filed against the Vice President. There are rumors that the Chief Executive is behind all of it as it transpired amid the souring relationship between him and the Vice President.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has thrown tirades against Pres. Bongbong Marcos several times. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has even previously issued a subpoena over the “threats” of the Vice President on the lives of Marcos Jr., First Lady Imelda Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Following the decision of the House, many people have called on the Senate to act on the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. There are also questions as to why Pres. Bongbong Marcos has not called on a special session — to which Malacañang explained.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Malacañang press officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said that Pres. Bongbong Marcos will be in an “awkward position” to voluntarily call for a special session over the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

“Para pong–the way we see it, it would be an awkward position on the part of the President to voluntarily call for a special session, considering that there is this ongoing intrigues that the President is behind the impeachment proceedings,” the Malacañang Press Officer said.

Based on the report, the Palace Press Officer said it would be better for the Senate to request Pres. Marcos to ask him to call for a special session. According to Castro, in that case, the President will do it despite his pronouncement on the issue.

Previously, a congressman has apologized after he signed the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
