Gluta Drip Session Leads to Woman’s Eye Infection
GLUTA DRIP – A woman named Jelly Macha claimed that a glutathione drip session caused a severe infection in her right eye, leaving her unable to open it and fearing permanent vision loss.
In a viral video, Jelly asked for prayers as she shared her experience. She explained that during the procedure, the nurse administering the drip appeared to be unskilled. “Nagkaroon ako ng infection sa aking gluta drip session. Hindi marunong ‘yung nurse na nagturok sa akin. Una siyang nagturok sa akin dito [kanang kamay], sinagad niya ‘yung pinaka-needle and pumutok agad ugat ko. Nag-try ulit rito [kaliwang kamay] and then pumutok uli,” Jelly recounted.
Two days after the session, Jelly experienced extreme pain and had to be hospitalized. She also suffered from severe vomiting. An ophthalmologist later diagnosed her with an infection that affected a nerve in her eye.

In light of this incident, Dr. Maria Jasmin Jamora, President of the Philippine Dermatological Society, warned the public about the risks of intravenous (IV) glutathione, particularly when used for skin whitening. She emphasized that this use is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“The Philippine Dermatological Society is reminding the public that IV glutathione is not approved by the FDA for skin whitening and called on the public to go to reputable skin clinics for their skin health concerns,” Dr. Jamora said in an official statement.

Meanwhile, a glutathione drip, also called IV glutathione therapy, is a process where glutathione, a strong antioxidant, is given directly into the bloodstream through an IV. This method skips the digestive system, allowing the body to absorb it more quickly and effectively.
Initially, glutathione therapy was used in medicine to treat issues like liver damage, immune system problems, and certain brain disorders. Its ability to reduce toxins, fight cell damage, and improve overall health made it valuable. Over time, it became popular for cosmetic reasons, especially for skin whitening, after some patients noticed their skin becoming lighter as a side effect. This trend became particularly popular in countries like the Philippines and Thailand, where lighter skin is often considered desirable.
