FDA Flags Rosmar Tan for Selling Unregistered Beauty Products
ROSMAR TAN – The well-known vlogger and entrepreneur, has been flagged by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for selling unregistered beauty products.
The FDA issued advisories warning the public against purchasing Rosmar Skin Essentials’ “Premium Niacinamide Soap” and “Mysterious Madre de Cacao Soap” due to their lack of a valid Certificate of Product Notification (CPN) as of December 17, 2024. These findings were based on the agency’s post-marketing surveillance.
According to the FDA Act of 2009, selling health products without proper authorization is prohibited. The FDA emphasized that unregistered products may pose health risks, including skin irritation, allergic reactions, and potentially severe health issues such as organ failure. Contaminated or substandard ingredients in these products were cited as possible hazards.
In response, Rosmar Tan acknowledged the FDA’s advisory but explained that the agency had repeatedly declined her company’s applications for CPNs, including renewals for previously approved products. She expressed frustration over the lengthy approval process, noting that even after submitting revisions, her applications were still denied.
While most Rosmar Skin Essentials products are FDA-approved, the agency has issued warnings about several other items from her brand since 2023. These include soaps, serums, food supplements, feminine wash, and whitening coffee and chocolate drinks. Notably, the FDA recently lifted its advisory against Rosmar’s “Glutapeeling Soap” after the product complied with regulations and obtained a CPN.
A CPN, which has a one-year validity, is required before any cosmetic product can be sold, imported, or distributed. The FDA clarified that processing typically takes 17 working days. The agency has also directed its field offices and law enforcement units to ensure unauthorized products are removed from the market.
Rosmar Tan, who has a substantial online following with over 22 million TikTok followers, is also pursuing a political career. She is running as an independent candidate for councilor in Manila’s first district in the upcoming May 2025 elections, after an unsuccessful bid in 2022.
