Naldy Padilla Expresses Frustration Over ‘Fake’ Orient Pearl
NALDY PADILLA – The original vocalist of Orient Pearl, has voiced his frustration over the relaunched version of the band, referring to it as “Faux Orient Pearl.” This new iteration of the band features Ney Dimaculangan, former vocalist of 6CycleMind, as the lead singer. Naldy clarified that he holds no ill feelings toward Dimaculangan, recognizing that he was simply given an opportunity to showcase his talent. However, Naldy expressed discontent with the rest of the group, especially with the use of the band’s name without his consent.
Speaking at a media conference for the Frontmen & Rock Chix concert on January 10, 2025, Naldy explained that he had no problem with the new vocalist, Ney, as he was just fulfilling an artistic opportunity. However, Naldy’s issue lies with the band’s decision to continue using the name Orient Pearl, which he believes should have come to an end after the band’s legacy in the ’90s.
Naldy revealed that he had been in discussions with the band’s bassist, who promoted the relaunch, and while he understood the band’s desire to keep the name alive, he felt it was time to move on. According to him, everything must come to a close, just like any good story or book. He emphasized that Orient Pearl’s legacy had already been established, and it was better to let it rest.
He also declared that he is the rightful owner of the band’s name, asserting that he founded Orient Pearl in 1992, long before guitarist Leo Awatin and other members came into the picture. Naldy expressed disbelief at how some of the band’s current members are falsely claiming to be the founders of Orient Pearl.
Despite his anger, Naldy mentioned that he had sought advice from friends and family, including Karla Estrada and DJ Daniel Padilla, who advised him to avoid legal action. Instead, Naldy sarcastically welcomed any attempts to sue him, confident that it would only harm the relaunched band’s credibility.
According to PEP.ph, Naldy’s passion for preserving his band’s name and legacy is evident, and while he wished the new members well, he remains resolute in his stance, saying, “Ako ang may-ari niyan!”
