Mikee Reyes Accused of Resigning from Frontline After Receiving His 13th Month Pay
MIKEE REYES – The sports newscaster responded to a netizen who accused him of resigning from Frontline after receiving his 13th month pay.
Mikee is a former professional basketball player, podcaster, media personality, and sports analyst. He played college basketball for the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, where he gained recognition for his scoring ability. However, his college career was marked by injuries and disagreements with coaches, and he later helped UP break a 27-game losing streak in 2014.
Reyes was drafted by the TNT KaTropa in the 2016 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) draft but was cut from the team. He then played for various teams in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) and the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), including the Kaohsiung Truth, Singapore Slingers, Bacoor City Strikers, Valenzuela Classic, and Bacolod Master Sardines, before retiring in 2020.
After his playing career, Reyes transitioned to sports commentary and broadcasting. He became a basketball analyst for several networks, including ABS-CBN, GMA Network, One Sports, and TV5. He is also the host of the Shoot First Podcast, where he discusses basketball and other topics with co-hosts.
In addition to his media career, Reyes created the “Tito Mikee” online persona on social media, where he shares lifestyle and career advice. He has also been involved in content creation, particularly on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. He is currently in a relationship with content creator CK De Leon.
Recently, Mikee Reyes announced his resignation from Frontline. He thanked News5 for an amazing year and a half, signing off with his signature catchphrase.
Apparently, a netizen accused him of resigning from the program after receiving his 13th month pay. However, Mikee clarified that talents like him don’t receive a 13th-month pay or Christmas bonuses unless specified in their contracts. According to him, they are paid per episode or project, with no benefits, and the “no work, no pay” rule applies. Despite this, he mentioned that the setup suits those who prefer not to be tied down and hopes his followers learned something new from his experience.
