GLORIA ROMERO – The alleged last will and testament of one of the most beloved actresses in Philippine show business, has gone viral and generated mixed reactions online.
According to the Facebook page Pinoy History, Romero had a unique approach to saving money. Beginning in 1955, she regularly deposited her earnings into time deposits across eight different banks every five years. This disciplined habit allowed her wealth to grow steadily over the years. Unlike many celebrities, she avoided spending on expensive jewelry, designer bags, luxurious clothing, or cars. She lived a simple life, owning only one property—her mansion and the land it stood on, valued at ₱19.1 million. The rest of her wealth was kept as cash in the bank.
Her will demonstrates her commitment to helping others. She allocated ₱71.7 million each to three charitable organizations. These include groups that care for abandoned children, homes for elderly individuals left behind by their families, and a daycare center for underprivileged children. Her lawyer did not disclose the names of these organizations.
A significant portion of her wealth—₱287.1 million—was designated for building a high school in Pangasinan, where she grew up before embarking on her acting career. This gesture served as her way of giving back to her hometown and honoring her family’s struggles during World War II. At that time, her family sought refuge in a basement after her American mother tragically died in an accident in the Philippines.
Romero’s only daughter, former actress Marites Gutierrez, and her grandson, Chris Gutierrez, were each left 15% of her cash, her mansion, and all its contents.
