Vic Sotto Received the Script for the Pepsi Paloma Movie, Says Darryl Yap’s Camp
DARRYL YAP – The camp of the film director has refuted veteran TV host-actor Vic Sotto’s statement regarding the lack of consultation about the film “The Rap*sts of Pepsi Paloma.”
On January 9, 2025, Vic Sotto personally filed 19 counts of cyber libel against Darryl Yap at the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court. The case stems from a controversial teaser for Darryl’s film released on January 1, 2025, which explicitly mentioned Vic’s name in a scene involving Gina Alajar and Rhed Bustamante.
In the teaser, Gina Alajar, playing Charito Solis, confronts Rhed Bustamante, portraying Pepsi Paloma, about whether Vic Sotto rap*d her. The teaser, captioned with a provocative description, led to Vic Sotto’s reaction. Vic stated in an interview that he was not consulted nor given consent for the use of his name, which he found concerning as his name was implicated in a serious accusation.
On the other hand, Darryl Yap’s legal counsel, Atty. Raymond Fortun, claimed that Vic was sent a copy of the film’s script and that several follow-ups were made, but they received no response from Vic’s camp. According to Fortun, the script was intended for feedback, and the film scenes were completed without any input from Vic’s side.
Following Vic’s petition for a writ of habeas data to stop the dissemination of promotional materials containing personal and sensitive information, the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court ordered Darryl to submit a verified return on the writ within five days. Fortun clarified that there was no stop order issued and that they would comply with the court’s order.
Darryl’s camp also requested a gag order to prevent Vic’s team from publicly discussing details of the ongoing legal matter. They stressed the importance of protecting Darryl’s freedom of artistic expression and preventing any breach that could harm the film’s outcome.
