Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Issued Subpoena by NBI over Remarks vs. Marcos Jr.
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President requested for a copy of the questions that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) intends to ask her following a subpoena.
The recent tirades of Vice Pres. Duterte against Pres. Marcos were not able to skip the attention of the authorities unlike her previous remarks against the Chief Executive. The Vice President released remarks that seemingly ignited threats against the life of the President, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos released a statement after the remarks of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to the Chief Executive, he will not let pass a threat to his life. He stressed that there are several alarming statements lately. He also emphasized that the issue could have been done if only the legitimate questions in the Senate and the House of Representatives were answered.
Marcos Jr. also stressed that the rule of law must be upheld. According to him, he has worked in the Senate and the House and he respects the power given to the lawmakers by the people. He stressed that the officials have the responsibility to implement the law regardless of what and who it may affect.
Following the remarks of the Vice President, the NBI issued a subpoena against Vice Pres. Duterte over her threats against Marcos Jr. The investigation bureau requested her to appear at their headquarters last Friday but she was not able to come.
Prior to the summon, Duterte requested the NBI for a rescheduling of the summon as she will prioritize the hearing of the House of Representatives wherein the staff members of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) will appear. However, after knowing the reason of the Vice President, the House panel decided to postpone the hearing so she can appear at the NBI.
Ahead of the scheduled appearance of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte at the NBI headquarters to explain her statement against Pres. Bongbong Marcos, her camp sent a letter to the investigation bureau informing them that she cannot come. In her letter, the Vice President requested for copies of the following:
- copy of the complaint filed against her or any document that initiated the investigation
- questions that the NBI intends to ask her

Vice Pres. Duterte previously claimed that her statement against Pres. Marcos was allegedly taken out of context. According to her, there was no active threat in what she said against the Chief Executive.
Amid the issues surrounding her daughter now, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte said that charges can be filed against Vice Pres. Duterte. He is confident that his daughter can handle it and she won’t be jailed.
