Pinay Went Viral for Teaching Her Australian Friends to Speak w/ Filipino Accent
A Pinay TikToker brings good vibes online by teaching her Australian friends how to pronounce words in a Filipino accent.
The Filipino accent is a unique way Filipinos speak English or other languages, influenced by Tagalog and other local dialects. One of its standout features is how clearly vowels are pronounced, usually without blending, giving it a steady rhythm.
The “R” sound is often rolled, similar to Spanish, while “F” and “V” sounds are sometimes replaced with “P” and “B” because these sounds aren’t common in native Filipino languages. For example, “very fine” might come out as “bery pine.” Words are also spoken with even stress on syllables, similar to how they’re said in Filipino.
Since many Filipinos are exposed to American English, they often use American words and spelling but add their own twist in pronunciation. It’s also common to mix English with Tagalog or other dialects in conversations, creating “Taglish,” which combines Filipino rhythm with English words.
Recently, Patch Chua, a TikTok user, shared a fun video of teaching her Australian friend how to pronounce words in a Filipino accent. The post immediately spread like wildfire online and elicited comments from netizens.
In the video, Chua can be seen with her Australian friends as they try their best to mimic Filipino pronunciation. The video was recorded during her stay in Brisbane, Australia.
Patch explained that she came up with the idea while hanging out with her friends and decided to turn it into content. While her friends were aware they’d be featured in a video, they weren’t entirely sure what they were in for.
“I briefed all of them about my content idea before I started recording, but they had no idea what I actually meant,” Chua said.
Their genuine surprise and laughter when she introduced the Filipino accent made the interaction even more entertaining.
