No Cooking Show in Gabi ng Parangal Results, Says MMFF Spokesperson
NOEL FERRER – The spokesperson for the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) defended the results of the Gabi ng Parangal held on December 27 at the Solaire Grand Ballroom in Parañaque.
Ferrer assured the public that the process for determining the winners was fair and thorough, emphasizing that the integrity of the jury cannot be questioned. He shared his thoughts on the ceremony’s outcome through a Facebook post on December 28, addressing concerns and criticisms regarding the awards.
Ferrer emphasized that while people may have differing opinions on the winners, the jury’s decisions were made through a transparent and rigorous process. He clarified that there were no leaks or biases during the deliberations, which took place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the day of the ceremony. According to Ferrer, only the Jury Chair, Nicanor Tiongson, and the MMFF Executive Director were aware of the results ahead of time, assuring that no one else, including members of the Executive Committee, had access to the outcome before the ceremony.
“No leaks, definitely no cooking show … only the Jury Chair and the MMFF Executive Director knew the results, not even I or any member of the Execom,” he said.
The jury, headed by Professor Emeritus Nicanor Tiongson from the University of the Philippines Film Institute, included notable figures such as FDCP Chairperson Jose “Joey” Javier Reyes, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, actor John Arcilla, and others from various sectors of the film industry.
At the awards ceremony, Green Bones emerged as the big winner, taking home six awards, including Best Picture. Dennis Trillo and Judy Ann Santos won Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively, while Kakki Teodoro and Ruru Madrid were named Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor.
