Netizens Call Out MMFF 2024 Gabi ng Parangal for ‘Disrespecting’ Eugene Domingo
EUGENE DOMINGO – Netizens took to social media to call out the MMFF 2024 Gabi ng Parangal for “disrespecting” the award-winning comedienne-actress.
The Metro Manila Film Festival 2024 Gabi ng Parangal, held at the Solaire Resort in Parañaque City, celebrated the best in Filipino cinema. Green Bones by GMA Pictures won Best Picture, along with multiple awards, including Best Actor for Dennis Trillo, Best Supporting Actor for Ruru Madrid, and Best Screenplay for Ricky Lee and Angeli Atienza.
he Kingdom received 2nd Best Picture, Best Director, Best Production Design, Best Visual Effects, and the Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award, while My Future You earned 3rd Best Picture and Best Director. Isang Himala took home 4th Best Picture and the Special Jury Prize, along with several other awards.
The ceremony also honored outstanding individuals, with Joseph “Erap” Ejercito Estrada receiving the MMFF Lifetime Achievement Award. Other major winners included Judy Ann Santos for Best Actress (Espantaho), Kakki Teodoro for Best Supporting Actress (Isang Himala), and Sienna Stevens for Best Child Performer (Green Bones). Additionally, Green Bones won Best Cinematography, and My Future You earned Best Editing.
However, some netizens, particularly on Twitter, were disappointed with the results of the awards night. Some believed that the And the Breadwinner Is… actress deserved the Best Supporting Actress award. Additionally, what upset netizens as “disrespectful” was the inclusion of Domingo’s name in the list of actors who had passed away.
As of press time, Eugene Domingo has yet to issue a statement regarding the controversy surrounding the MMFF 2024 Gabi ng Parangal.
Meanwhile, Eugene Domingo is a renowned actress, comedian, and host, popularly known as the “Comedy Star for All Seasons.” Domingo began her career in 1989 and has since achieved success in various film genres, both in lead and supporting roles. She is best known for her roles in Kimmy Dora (2009) and Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank (2011), the latter of which became the highest-grossing independent film in Philippine history.
