PSA Finds No Record for ‘Mary Grace Piattos’
PSA – The Philippine Statistics Authority confirmed that there is no record of birth, marriage, or death for an individual named “Mary Grace Piattos” in their Civil Registry System.
This name allegedly appeared on receipts submitted to state auditors in 2022, indicating a possible connection to confidential funds from Vice President Sara Duterte’s office. The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, led by Rep. Joel Chua, is currently investigating the matter, and this information was presented as part of the ongoing inquiry into the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) confidential expenses.
Lawmakers have raised doubts about the legitimacy of “Mary Grace Piattos,” with some even labeling the name as fictitious, speculating it may be inspired by a restaurant or snack brand. The PSA, tasked with verifying the individual’s identity, reported a negative result after checking its database, confirming that no civil registry documents exist for the name. They stated, however, that further searches could be conducted if additional details, such as the names of Piattos’ parents, were provided.
During a recent House hearing, an OVP special disbursing officer noted that the surname “Piattos” is known to exist in Davao City. Vice President Duterte has denied any allegations of corruption or misuse of funds, describing the investigation as a politically motivated attack. When asked about “Mary Grace Piattos” in late November, Duterte declined to comment, stating that she had not seen the receipt where the name appeared.
In a bid to uncover the true identity of this individual, several lawmakers offered a reward of P1 million to anyone who could provide information leading to the discovery of “Mary Grace Piattos.” In a related development, Rep. Stella Quimbo revealed that the OVP spent its P125-million confidential funds for 2022 in just 11 days.
