LEILA DE LIMA – The former Senator expressed that it is the “right time” to file an impeachment complaint versus Vice President Sara Duterte.
Currently, Vice Pres. Duterte is one of the Filipino politicians who became controversial due to the issues and accusations against her. The Vice President and her office are being questioned about the utilization of the office’s Confidential Funds.
The House of Representatives also asks the CIF spending of the Department of Education during Duterte’s term as the DepEd secretary. It was in June when the Vice President resigned from being the education secretary. She also left the Marcos cabinet.
However, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has left several members of the House disappointed with her repeated non-appearances during the hearings set by the lower chamber. A few days ago, a member of the House confirmed that an impeachment complaint is rolling against Duterte in the lower chamber.
According to ACT Teacher’s Party-List Representative France Castro, the impeachment complaint is set to be filed this December. It gained different reactions from the public as well as from the other officials in the government.
Presidential sister and Senator Imee Marcos is against the impeachment complaint versus Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. She stressed that the Filipinos are already divided. The issue rose amid the Vice President having been summoned by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over her “threat” against the Marcoses.
Recently, an impeachment complaint was indeed filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, among the complainants were Randy Delos Santos, Fr. Flaviano Villanueva, Teresita Quintos Deles, Fr. Robert Reyes, and Francis Aquino Dee among others. Former Sen. Leila de Lima is the spokesperson of the group.
Based on the report, former Sen. Leila de Lima stressed that they believe that this is the right time to file an impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Speaking to TeleRadyo Serbisyo’s Johnson Ikwento Mo,
“Sa pananaw ng group of complainants, this is the time. This is the right time. Kailan pa? Ano pa ba ang hihintayin natin? Hihintayin pa ba ‘yung next elections,” the former Senator said.
She also raised questions regarding the recent behavior of the Vice President. Based on the report, she asked if the Filipinos deserve this kind of vice president who she described as “feeling untouchable”.
“Ang pinakatanong dito is do we deserve such kind of a vice president?… Na ngayon lang ito nangyari na mayroong ganyang very high official na ganiyan ang asta. Feeling untouchable, mas mataas siya sa batas, kayang-kaya niya to make any kind of threats and any kind of mga tantrums na verging on a criminal behavior,” Duterte said.
Amid the tirades of the Vice President against him, Pres. Bongbong Marcos is not in favor of filing an impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to the Chief Executive, it will only tie up the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Makabayan Bloc tagged the move of the President as an alleged sign of a “weak leadership” and an “interference”.
