Legal Experts Speaks on VP Sara Duterte Rants against Marcoses
SARA DUTERTE – A legal expert stressed that only President Bongbong Marcos has immunity against suit and the Vice President may face disbarment.
The current relationship between Pres. Bongbong Marcos and Vice Pres. Duterte has stirred a lot of questions. From being election running mates who seemed so close to each other that they were even tagged as “best friends” by many of their fans and supporters, the President and the VP is now in a situation that involved tirades and opposing remarks.
There were several instances when Duterte threw negative remarks against Marcos Jr. She even claimed that the Chief Executive allegedly does not know how to be a president.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also gave Pres. Bongbong Marcos a “one” when asked to rate his governance from 1-10 with 10 as the highest. She also threatened to exhume the remains of Marcos Sr. and throw it into the West Philippine Sea if the supposed attacks against her don’t stop.
Marcos Sr. was mum on the issue as well as the president’s sisters. However, presidential son and Ilocos Norte Representative Sandro Marcos stressed that he hopes she’s okay as she allegedly crossed the line. Recently, the Vice President threw another negative remarks against the Marcoses.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s latest remarks seemingly ignited threats on the lives of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez. The statement of the Vice President came amid the existence of a detention order against OVP chief-of-staff Attorney Zuleika Lopez who was rushed to the hospital during detention.
The remarks of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte elicited different reactions from the public. Based on a report on GMA News, former Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) president and constitutional law expert Domingo Cayosa said that the remarks of the Vice President may cause her troubles.
According to the legal expert, Vice Pres. Duterte may be charged due to her statements and she may face disbarment. Based on the report, the former Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) President stressed that only the president has immunity from charges.
“Only the President is immune from suit. All others can be charged. Dahil abogado ang ating Vice President, she can also be charged for unethical conduct, but the penalty there is only, pinakamataas noon disbarment from the legal profession,” Cayosa said.
Furthermore, former Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) president and constitutional law expert Domingo Cayosa also said that Vice Pres. Duterte may face libel charges due to her accusations against the First Lady. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte accused First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos that she’s allegedly behind the giving of envelopes with cash to DepEd officials.
