Latest Update on Typhoon Nika According to PAGASA
NIKA PH – Typhoon Nika (Toraji) has intensified as it approaches the Isabela-Aurora boundary, moving west-northwestward at 15 km/h, based on PAGASA’s latest update.
As of 7:00 AM, the center of Nika was located over the coastal waters of Dilasag, Aurora, with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center, gustiness reaching up to 180 km/h, and a central pressure of 965 hPa. Typhoon-force winds extend outward up to 340 km from its center.
Due to the storm’s approach, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 4 has been raised in parts of Aurora, Isabela, Kalinga, and Ilocos Sur, indicating winds of 118 to 184 km/h and posing a severe threat to life and property. Meanwhile, TCWS No. 3 is in effect for surrounding areas, where storm-force winds (89 to 117 km/h) present a moderate to significant threat.
The typhoon is expected to make landfall over Isabela or northern Aurora this morning and will likely weaken to a severe tropical storm as it crosses Luzon. By this evening, it is projected to emerge over the West Philippine Sea, potentially exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility by November 12. However, even areas outside the landfall zone may experience hazardous conditions, including significant storm surges, especially in exposed coastal localities like Ilocos Norte, Isabela, Zambales, and the Polillo Islands.
Sea travel in affected areas is hazardous, with coastal waters anticipated to reach wave heights of up to 8 meters in Isabela and northern Aurora, posing risks for all types of vessels. The public, particularly those in high-risk zones, are advised to follow evacuation orders and other safety protocols from local officials.
Additionally, strong winds from the northeasterly flow will impact areas like Batanes, Cavite, and Catanduanes through November 12. For updates on rainfall advisories and severe weather in specific regions, residents are urged to monitor reports from PAGASA’s Regional Services Divisions. The next cyclone bulletin from PAGASA will be released at 11:00 AM.
