Marcos Discourages VP Sara Duterte Impeachment, Makabayan Bloc Reacts To President’s Remarks

Makabayan Bloc slammed the move of Pres. Bongbong Marcos on the impeachment plan against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in the House of Representatives.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is faced with several issues and accusations right now. The National Bureau of Investigation or NBI has even issued a subpoena for Vice Pres. Duterte on her remarks against Pres. Bongbong Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

A member of the House of Representatives also recently confirmed that an impeachment plan against Vice Pres. Duterte. According to ACT Teachers’ Party-List Representative France Castro, they are gathering signatures now in support of the impeachment rap against the Vice President.

Several House lawmakers were disappointed by Duterte due to her multiple non-appearance in the hearings set by the lower chamber. She ditched the resumption of the deliberation of the 2025 budget proposal of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) as well as several hearings on the Confidential Funds use of the OVP and the Department of Education (DepEd) when she was the education secretary.

According to a House panel, the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will be filed this December. However, Pres. Bongbong Marcos was quick to admit that he is against the plan of some members of the House of Representatives.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos sees an impeachment plan against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte a waste of time so he discourages the lawmakers from filing one. According to him, it will only tie up the Senate and the House of Representatives. The President also claimed that the Vice President is “unimportant” in a larger scheme.

Marcos Jr. admitted that he sent a private message to the lawmakers encouraging them not to push through with an impeachment rap against Duterte. He stressed that it is his opinion.

However, the move of Pres. Bongbong Marcos did not sit well with the Makabayan Bloc. Based on a report on GMA News, the party-lists’ group said that the action of the President allegedly violates the provision in the Constitution regarding the separation of powers among the three (3) branches of the government.

“Such a move shows a weak leadership. In the presence of corruption, death threats and blatant disrespect of the House of Representatives, this is how the President behaves and stand(s)?” the party-lists group said.

Based on the report, the Makabayan Bloc also called the move of Pres. Bongbong Marcos an “interference” on the affairs of the legislative branch. The group stressed that it is their duty to make sure that no one is above the law.

“Tungkulin nating siguruhin na walang opisyal ang nasa itaas ng batas. Kung may sapat na batayan para sa impeachment, dapat itong ipagpatuloy alinsunod sa ating Konstitusyon,” the group said.

The feud between Pres. Bongbong Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte leaves countless people confused. Recently, Marcos reacted to Duterte’s statement that they have reached a “point of no return”.
