Images of Thailand Bus Fire Victims’ Wake Touch Millions
THAILAND BUS FIRE – A viral video showing images from the wake of the victims of the Thai bus accident has touched many people online.
The video shared widely, shows the 25 caskets of those who died in the accident, including children and teachers. Each victim’s photo is displayed in gold-like frames with their names, while family members stand quietly in front of the images, paying their respects.
The tragic bus fire happened on October 1, 2024, in Khu Khot, Lam Luk Ka District, killing 23 people, including 20 students. The bus, run by Chinbut Tour, was carrying 44 passengers—38 students and six teachers—on a field trip to visit historical sites. Early reports say a tire explosion caused the bus to lose control, crash into a roadside barrier, and start a fire fueled by natural gas in the bus’s lower section.
The accident occurred at 12:29 PM on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, where witnesses described a chaotic scene as passengers tried to escape the fire. Sadly, 23 people, including students from different grade levels and three teachers, one of whom was a trainee, lost their lives. Sixteen students and three teachers were able to escape, while eight others were injured and some were taken to the hospital.
This tragedy highlights Thailand’s troubling traffic safety record, with around 20,000 deaths each year, many due to unsafe driving. The accident comes after several school bus crashes in the country, raising concerns about student transportation safety.
The bus was part of a group from Wat Khao Phraya Sangkharam School, heading to historical sites. After the crash, the driver fled but later turned himself in. Security footage showed him trying to open doors to help passengers escape the fire. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed her condolences and plans to visit the victims’ families, as public pressure grows for stronger safety measures on long-distance field trips.
