Netizens React to the Influencer’s Reckless Driving in BGC
BONIFACIO GLOBAL CITY – A viral video featuring a “social media influencer” driving down a one-way street in BGC, Taguig, has sparked outrage and prompted an investigation by local authorities. The incident occurred on October 6, 2024, when the influencer, along with several passengers, was filmed driving against traffic on 7th Avenue.
In the video, the group can be heard debating whether to turn left at 28th Street. The passenger questions the legality of their actions, saying, “Bawal mahuhuli tayo,” while the driver dismisses the concern, insisting, “Puwede. Basta ako….”
Their disregard for the traffic rules ultimately led to them being stopped by a traffic enforcer, who informed them that they had entered a one-way street. During the interaction, the group argued that they were following directions from the Waze app, escalating the discussion and claiming that the app was at fault for their misdirection.
The driver even mentioned the child of a politician during the encounter, attempting to deflect responsibility. As a result of their actions, the group was issued an ordinance violation ticket. Despite the video being recorded on September 23, 2024, it remains a trending topic on social media, with many netizens expressing their anger at the influencer’s behavior.
Critics argue that the influencer’s actions set a poor example, with some comments calling for more severe penalties, such as revoking their driver’s license for life. Many users highlighted the negative influence social media personalities can have, stating that instead of using their platforms responsibly, they often prioritize personal gain over inspiring others.
The BGC security team is currently in touch with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) regarding the penalties to be imposed on the influencer and their group, emphasizing the importance of accountability in the face of reckless behavior on the road.
