Several Residents Stranded by Flooding in Bicol as Kristine Hits

TROPICAL STORM KRISTINE – The severe weather disturbance has caused severe flooding in Bicol, leaving many residents stranded and calling for help.

In Brgy. Triangulo, Naga City, residents were seen pleading for rescue on Tuesday night as floodwaters rapidly rose. Similar distress was reported in Iraya Norte, Oas, Albay, where cries for help echoed amid life-threatening flood conditions.

The storm brought significant flooding across the region, with water levels described as dangerously high and strong. Authorities and local communities urged the public to stay safe and pray for the victims of the storm. Rescue efforts began in Naga City early Wednesday morning, as Mayor Son Legacion confirmed ongoing operations. However, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) Bicol admitted that they were overwhelmed, struggling to respond to the high volume of emergency calls due to the extent of the flooding.

Former Vice President Leni Robredo appealed for additional pump boats to aid in rescue operations, as many residents remained trapped on rooftops and several rescue trucks were immobilized by floodwaters. Meanwhile, Bicol University in Albay opened its doors to provide temporary shelter for those displaced by the floods.

On Tuesday, October 22, Albay was placed under a state of calamity due to the extensive damage caused by Tropical Storm Kristine. The storm is projected to make landfall over Isabela or northern Aurora by Wednesday evening or early Thursday, October 23 or 24. It is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday, October 25. Residents are strongly advised to remain vigilant, follow safety advisories, and continue praying for the safety of those affected.
