MISS GRAND MYANMAR – The candidate of Myanmar in Miss Grand International 2024 was unexpectedly stripped of her crown and swiftly removed from the stage.
During the coronation night, her crown was suddenly taken away, and she was quickly escorted off stage, with reports indicating she was even carried as she departed. Eyewitnesses suggested that the management of Miss Grand Myanmar was displeased with her third-place finish, as they are accustomed to achieving top rankings.
A user on X commented, “They are so used to getting the top place, and the management and team weren’t happy with the third place received.” Public reactions included a mix of criticism and confusion, with some netizens harshly judging her, saying, “She didn’t deserve to win. She’s ugly,” while others questioned the behavior of those handling her crown and sash, labeling it as abnormal and embarrassing.
As of press time, Miss Grand Myanmar has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
Amid this controversy, Rachel Gupta from India was crowned Miss Grand International 2024 during the event held on October 25 at MGI Hall in Bangkok, Thailand. CJ Opiaza from the Philippines earned the title of first runner-up, while Thae Su Nyein from Myanmar was named second runner-up, followed by Safiétou Kabengele of France and Talita Hartmann of Brazil, who took the third and fourth runner-up spots, respectively.
In the Q&A segment, Miss India addressed poverty caused by overpopulation, urging global leaders to take responsibility and promote resource availability for all. She advocated for birth control as a means to manage resources, noting that in her country, India, many lack basic needs such as food, water, and education, a situation mirrored worldwide.
