Julie Anne San Jose Faces Backlash Over Church Performance
JULIE ANNE SAN JOSE – The Asia’s Limitless Star faced criticism after performing at Nuestra Señora Del Pilar Shrine in Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, on October 6, 2024.
A Facebook user named ‘Matabang Tindero’ shared a video of her wearing a sparkly sleeveless and backless gown while singing and dancing to ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” in front of the church’s altar, a place considered sacred by many in the Catholic community.
Netizens questioned why the Parish allowed her to wear a revealing outfit and perform a non-solemn song in such a setting. According to the Code of Canon Law, churches are primarily for sacred events like weddings, though some parishes permit performances that align with the space’s sanctity.
Her appearance, alongside fellow Sparkle artist Jessica Villarubin, sparked a debate about the appropriateness of the event’s location and attire. The incident has led to discussions on the boundaries between entertainment and religious reverence. As of now, neither the Parish nor Julie Anne San Jose has addressed the criticism.
