Update on JM Bravo, the Lyceum Player Who Fell After Colliding with an Arellano Player

JM BRAVO – A basketball player representing the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU), regained consciousness following a concerning incident during a match against Arellano University on Saturday.

With merely eight seconds remaining in the game, Bravo collapsed after a head-on collision with Arellano’s Renzo Abiera while both players were scrambling for a loose ball. The game was promptly halted as medical personnel rushed to provide assistance.

In the aftermath of the incident, Bravo underwent a CT scan, the results of which were negative. Hercules Callanta, the chair of the NCAA Season 100 Management Committee and LPU representative, communicated to the media that Bravo was experiencing mild dizziness, headaches, and jaw pain as a result of the collision.

He indicated that Bravo was being discharged from the hospital, pending further instructions from the attending physician. Callanta emphasized the necessity of rest, advising Bravo to refrain from attending practice or classes at least until Monday to ensure adequate recovery.

Significantly, Callanta clarified that Bravo’s current health concerns were unrelated to a previous spine injury that had caused him to miss seven games earlier in the season. He explained that Bravo’s condition was due to a blow to the head resulting from the in-game clash. Should Bravo receive medical clearance, he will be eligible to return to play.

According to a report by GMA Integrated News, Bravo will need to follow a concussion protocol for 48 hours to facilitate monitoring of his recovery. Notably, this incident occurred shortly after Bravo had returned to the NCAA tournament in the second round following medical clearance.

Despite the alarming circumstances surrounding Bravo’s health, the game resumed, with Arellano University ultimately securing a narrow victory, finishing with a score of 91-86. The atmosphere within the arena transitioned from competitive enthusiasm to profound concern for Bravo’s well-being, underscoring the inherent risks of sports and the paramount importance of player safety. Fans and teammates alike expressed their earnest hopes for his swift and complete recovery.
