Harry Roque’s Comments on the Flood Control Projects Criticized by Netizens: “Stay strong in hiding, sir”

Harry Roque’s Remarks About the Flood Control Projects Faced Backlash From Netizens

HARRY ROQUE – The recent Facebook post of the former presidential spokesperson about a supposed ₱9.4 billion allocation for flood control projects in the Bicol region has sparked widespread reactions from netizens.

On October 24, Roque claimed the funding was designated for Bicol in 2023, urging residents to “stay strong” amid recent flooding. His announcement follows Typhoon Kristine’s impact on the Bicol region on October 22, causing severe flooding that trapped many residents in their homes.

Roque’s post attracted a flurry of comments, with many questioning the validity of the flood control project he mentioned. Some users sarcastically remarked, “Stay strong….. in hiding sir. Laban lang,” while others suggested any money intended for Roque should instead be used to help typhoon victims. Many expressed doubt about the large amount allocated for the flood control project, asking, “Nasaan ang proyekto?!?” and “Sino ba binigyan ng flood control na yan?”

Critics pointed out the gap between the announced budget and visible impacts on the ground, with comments like, “Ang Laki Pero Parang Wala Naman Nakitang Ganyan na budget” showing skepticism about the effectiveness of the claimed measures.

Meanwhile, Harry Roque is currently missing due to legal issues related to his alleged role as a lawyer for two Pampanga POGO companies. In August 2024, he was held in contempt and detained for 24 hours during a House investigation for allegedly lying to the committee. Roque claimed this was an abuse of power and insisted it was a mistake.

After appearing again on September 12, he faced contempt charges for not providing requested financial records. He remained detained until the POGO hearings ended or he complied with the subpoena. Roque maintained that the documents were unrelated to the POGOs and challenged the committee to file formal charges against him. By September 19, he was declared to be on the run, prompting a manhunt by the Philippine National Police, although they did not disclose specific details. The Bureau of Immigration confirmed that he was still in the country.
