Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian Speaks on the Arrest of Alice Guo
SHERWIN GATCHALIAN – The senator reacted to the arrest of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo.
The former mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, was apprehended in Indonesia at 1:30 AM on Wednesday, according to the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC). The arrest was confirmed by PAOCC chief Gilbert Cruz. NBI Director Jaime Santiago stated that Guo was detained in Tangerang City, situated in Banten province on the western border of Jakarta.
A Bureau of Immigration source revealed that Guo was captured by Indonesian authorities in an apartment or villa in Tangerang City. She reportedly moved between hotels frequently to avoid detection, staying at each location for only around two days.
Following her arrest, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian issued a statement via Inquirer.net. The lawmaker expressed that now that Alice Guo has been arrested, she must be held accountable for the charges against her, such as human trafficking, money laundering, and other violations. He emphasized the importance of Guo facing justice in the Philippines.
Gatchalian also mentioned that after being processed by the NBI and BI, Guo should be brought to the Senate, which has an outstanding arrest order against her. He called for Guo to reveal the names of those involved in her criminal activities in Bamban and any government officials who assisted her so that they can also be prosecuted.
“Dahil nahuli na siya, dapat managot siya sa mga kasong isinampa laban sa kanya kagaya ng human trafficking, money laundering, quo warranto, paglabag sa utos ng Senado at iba pa. Importante na siya mismo ang managot dito sa ating bansa. Pagkatapos ma process siya ng NBI at BI, dapat din dalhin siya sa Senado dahil ang Senado lamang ang may outstanding arrest order laban sa kanya,” he said.
“Dapat din niyang sabihin kung sino sino ang kanyang mga kasama sa mga criminal activities niya sa Bamban at sino sino ang mga tumutulong sa kanya na na sa gobyerno. Gusto namin ng eksaktong mga pangalan para masampahan din ng kaso ang mga iyon,” he added.
