Due to Stalking His Wife with Over 100 Phone Calls a Day, a Husband Was Arrested
STALKER – A Japanese man was arrested for phone stalking his wife after making over 100 calls a day using the hidden number feature on his smartphone.
The 38-year-old husband, who resides in Amagasaki City near Kyoto, was taken into custody following an investigation that began in July 2024. His wife, who is 31, grew increasingly suspicious of the frequent calls she was receiving.
The issue came to light when the wife, frustrated by the persistent anonymous calls, reported them to the police on July 24, 2024. She described how the caller remained silent when she answered, forcing her to end each call. The hidden number feature made it impossible for her to identify or block the caller. The pattern of the calls—occurring mostly when they were not together, such as when she was using her smartphone to play video games—raised her concerns that the stalker was someone close to her.
According to PEP.ph, the police investigation confirmed that the calls were indeed made by her husband. He admitted to the stalking, explaining that he acted out of excessive affection for his wife. However, his behavior, while emotionally motivated, was considered a criminal offense under Japanese law. Stalking is punishable by imprisonment and fines, highlighting the legal seriousness of his actions.
This case is particularly notable as it represents the first instance of phone stalking involving a married couple living under the same roof. Despite having no reported marital issues or disputes, the husband’s actions were deemed a violation of legal and personal boundaries. The incident sheds light on the complexities of personal relationships and emphasizes the importance of respecting privacy, regardless of one’s emotional intentions.
