Heart Evangelista Has a Message for Yoda
HEART EVANGELISTA – The actress and fashion icon extended her support to Yoda, the Aspin who was not allowed to enter Balay Dako, a “proudly pet-friendly” restaurant in Tagaytay.
Yoda, an Aspin (Asong Pinoy) owned by Lara Antonio, captured the hearts of netizens after being banned from entering Balay Dako, a pet-friendly restaurant in Tagaytay City. On September 9, 2024, Antonio shared her disappointment about how she and Yoda were treated at the restaurant. Initially, they were permitted entry with the condition that Yoda wear a diaper. However, while waiting to be seated, a staff member informed her that Yoda was not allowed inside.
Antonio was told that only medium-sized dogs were allowed, but the staff’s explanation about the size requirements was inconsistent. She was informed that dogs should weigh between 10 and 15 kg, a weight limit that was not mentioned in the restaurant’s published pet guidelines and seemed arbitrary.
The situation grew more confusing when the restaurant manager reportedly stated that only certain breeds, such as Shih Tzus and Labradors, were allowed. This was problematic because Labradors exceed the 15 kg weight limit. Antonio criticized the policy, suggesting it was based on appearance rather than actual weight. She questioned why breeds like Labradors and Golden Retrievers were permitted if the weight limit was genuinely 15 kg.
In response to the backlash, Balay Dako issued a statement apologizing for the incident. They explained that they are revising their pet policy to make it clearer and more equitable. The restaurant reiterated its commitment to animal welfare but recognized the need to ensure the safety and comfort of all guests. They also promised to enhance staff training to better implement their policies.
Meanwhile, Heart Evangelista extended her support to Yoda. On her Instagram Stories, the actress and fashion icon posted a photo of her beloved dog named Panda with the words: “Sending love to Yoda.”
