Days After Her Wedding, A Filipino-American Nurse was Found Dead
MELISSA JUBANE – The Filipino-American nurse was found dead just days after her wedding. Melissa, a cardiac nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in Southwest Portland, Oregon, was reported missing by her family and coworkers on September 4, 2024. She had recently returned to Portland after her wedding to Bryan Llantero in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 24, 2024.
Melissa was last seen on Labor Day, September 2, when she spent time with her husband Bryan before returning to her apartment in Beaverton, Oregon, which was close to her workplace. Bryan, who lives in Bremerton, Washington, with Melissa’s family, last contacted her around 6 A.M. on September 4. Concerns grew when Melissa failed to report to work, prompting her family and coworkers to notify the authorities.
Beaverton Police responded to a welfare check request on September 4 and searched Melissa’s apartment, where they found no trace of her. Her phone was turned off, and there were no transactions on her bank or credit card records. By 3:12 P.M., Melissa was listed as a missing person in national law enforcement databases.
On September 6, Melissa’s body was found, and authorities arrested her neighbor, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert, as the main suspect in her murder. Schubert, also a nurse, had worked at Providence Portland Medical Center from September 2022 to October 2023. Police have charged him with second-degree murder, but details of the method used in the crime have not been disclosed.
According to PEP.ph, Melissa’s death has made headlines in the U.S., and the Beaverton Police continue to investigate the case. While they have shared some information, including Schubert’s arrest and his involvement in Melissa’s disappearance, further details are being withheld to protect the integrity of the investigation. Police have encouraged the public to come forward with any tips, and they extended condolences to Melissa’s family, friends, and coworkers.
