Duterte Takes Control of Apollo Quiboloy’s Assets Following Court Freeze Order

Ex-President Rodrigo Duterte Assumes Control of Pastor Quiboloy’s Assets Amid Legal Battles

DUTERTE – Former President Rodrigo Duterte assumes control of Apollo Quiboloy’s assets following court freeze order.

After more than two weeks of heightened search operations at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) property in Davao City, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, the organization’s founder and leader, was taken into custody by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Officers from the PNP conducted drills within the facility because they thought Quiboloy might be holed up in a bunker. KOJC followers expressed alarm over this drilling, especially in the vicinity of the Jose Maria College building.

Based on a report from Philstar, Apollo Quiboloy’s assets have been taken over by former President Rodrigo Duterte, because the pastor is a well-known supporter of the politician. Due to a protracted freeze order on Quiboloy’s bank accounts, real estate, and other assets, KOJC is currently tightening its financial position. As part of the Anti-Money Laundering Council’s decision, the Court of Appeals extended this freeze until February 6, 2025 (AMLC).

On August 7, a 20-day freeze was initially imposed after Quiboloy and four other individuals were accused of financial crimes, human trafficking, and s*xual exploitation by the appellate court. Funding for KOJC’s operations, such as its church, Jose Maria College, and the building of the 75,000-seat Kingdome, is restricted by this freeze extension.

According to the report, the freeze order affects Quiboloy’s 10 bank accounts at Banco de Oro and Metrobank, along with seven properties in various cities across Mindanao. It also includes KOJC assets, Sonshine Media Network International, and 10 individuals allegedly connected to Quiboloy’s activities.

KOJC legal counsel Israelito Torreon confirmed their compliance with the court’s decision, while Duterte has yet to issue a statement on the matter. Quiboloy and his co-accused—Ingrid Canada, Cresente Canada, Jacklyn Roy, and Sylvia Cemanes—were transported to Manila on Sunday night after week-long discussions between the KOJC board and the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP).

On Monday, Quiboloy’s legal team submitted a petition requesting their transfer from the PNP custodial center in Camp Crame to ISAFP’s detention facility at Camp Aguinaldo. Torreon also acknowledged that Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib contributed to the surrender negotiations.
