DepEd Releases Statement on Teacher’s Alleged Death from Stress Due to Principal’s Insults

Official Statement from DepEd Davao de Oro on the Death of Teacher Marjorie Llanto-Boldo

DEPED OFFICIAL STATEMENT – The Department of Education in Davao de Oro announced an investigation into the death of a teacher, Marjorie Llanto-Boldo, from Tibagon Elementary School, who allegedly died due to stress caused by insults from the principal.

Reports indicate that the tragic events unfolded during a math class, where Teacher Marjorie was assisting her students. While checking their papers, she was unaware that one student was playing around and accidentally hit his head on a desk, resulting in bleeding.

The child’s mother subsequently approached the principal regarding the incident. Apparently, no first aid was administered to the injured student, as Teacher Marjorie was allegedly frightened by the sight of blood. Following the incident, the principal reprimanded her, which deeply affected Teacher Marjorie emotionally.

She is said to have internalized these insults, which led to significant stress and ultimately resulted in her hospitalization. Unfortunately, she later passed away from complications thought to be related to this stress.

In response to this incident, DepEd Davao de Oro has expressed its condolences to Teacher Marjorie’s family and has confirmed that the principal will be summoned for questioning. The investigation aims to address the circumstances surrounding her death and to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future, highlighting the need for a supportive environment within educational settings.

Meanwhile, Dianne Empas Omapas, the mother of the child who sustained a head injury, clarified in an exclusive interview with 93.9 iFM News Davao that she did not intend to embarrass Teacher Marjorie Boldo. She stated that her actions were meant to raise “awareness” because she was concerned about the incident that left her child returning home with a bleeding head and no first aid provided.

Dianne also mentioned that she reached out to Teacher Boldo before approaching Principal Alvin Escobar, sending a message that included a photo of her child’s head injury. However, Teacher Boldo did not respond, which prompted her to go to the principal the following morning.
