Atty. Wilfredo Garrido Supports Pet Ban in Restaurants
ATTY. WILFREDO GARRIDO – The lawyer weighed in on the controversy involving a Tagaytay restaurant, Balay Dako, and a pet owner.
The issue erupted when the restaurant faced criticism after a customer complained that her Aspin named Yoda was barred from entering. The customer’s grievance received support from social media, particularly from animal rights groups.
In response, Garrido argued against allowing pets in restaurants, citing hygiene concerns. He criticized those who insist on bringing their pets into dining establishments, describing the practice as unsanitary.
“Enough of these self-entitled folks who insist in bringing their pets inside restaurants. We don’t want to eat beside your dogs or cats or what call your “fur babies”. Or snakes or monkeys, for that matter. It’s simply unsanitary,” he said.
Garrido emphasized that diners should not have to eat near pets, whether they are dogs, cats, or other animals. He pointed out the problems of fur, unpleasant odors, and potential contamination from animals as reasons why pets should not be permitted in dining areas.
“We don’t want to dine out with fur floating around or something slobbering or barking in the nearby tables. Or smelling something unpalatable. Or using plates or utensils that might have been touched in the slightest by the paws or bodily fluids of these critters. Your place is worse than a hospital ward. It’s okay to bring your pets into the corridors. Or hallways. Or churches, even. Or inside hospital wards. But inside eating places, no effing way,” he noted.
Garrido’s comments extended to a broader critique, suggesting that food establishments allowing pets should not pass sanitary inspections. His opinion reflects a belief that while pets might be acceptable in other spaces, they should not be allowed in restaurants. His post has sparked significant reactions online, reflecting ongoing debate about the presence of pets in dining environments.
