Remulla Speaks on Alice Guo Custody Following Arrest in Indonesia
ALICE GUO CUSTODY – Department of Justice (DOJ) chief Boying Remulla expressed his belief that the former Mayor must be under the Bureau of Immigration.
Former Bamban Mayor Guo was arrested in Indonesia. She was able to depart the Philippines amid several complaints filed against her. The former Mayor of Bamban, Tarlac is accused of involvement in the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in her town.
Guo is also questioned about her identity. The authorities identify her as Guo Hua Ping, the Chinese national who entered the Philippines in 2003. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed that they have the same fingerprints.
An arrest order was issued by the Senate after the former Mayor snubbed the hearings set by the upper chamber. However, the authorities failed to locate her in all her registered addresses until it was confirmed last month that she has left the country in July.
Alice Guo reportedly exited the Philippines and went to Malaysia then to Singapore and then to Indonesia. Guo’s alleged companions were detained in Indonesia and set back to the Philippines ahead of the former Mayor’s arrest.
Shiela Guo and Cassandra Ong were sent back to the Philippines. Cassandra Ong, an alleged representative of the illegal POGO operations in Porac, Pampanga, was sent to the House of Representatives.
Shiela Guo who claimed that Alice is not her biological sister was sent to the Senate. The former Mayor of Bamban, Tarlac was supposedly set to be under the custody of the Senate upon her return to the Philippines. However, a Tarlac court filed a case against her placing her custody under the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Recently, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Boying Remulla expressed his belief that the Bureau of Immigration must have the custody of Alice Guo. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the DOJ Chief was asked about who should take the custody of the former Mayor in a press briefing.
According to Remulla, “an immigration case should take precedence over everything”. He also stressed that it is non-bailable. Based on the report, he stressed that there are several immigration matters thus, former Mayor Alice Guo should be under the custody of the Bureau of Immigration.
“Kung may dapat magde-detain kay Alice Guo it should be the Bureau of Immigration... Fake passport niya, her being an alien actually, trying to pass herself off as a Filipino,” Remulla said.
Currently, Guo remains under the custody of the Philippine National Police. According to Remulla, there is a possibility that a “deportation case” will be filed against the former Mayor. The immigration bureau said that the former Mayor faces deportation charges for misrepresentation and undesirability.
