Maharlika Faces Charges Filed by PCSO GM Mel Robles
MAHARLIKA – Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) General Manager Melquiades “Mel” Robles has filed defamation and invasion of privacy complaints against vlogger Claire Contreras in the Central District Court of California, USA. Robles aims to end nearly a year of defamatory statements made by Maharlika against him and the PCSO through her YouTube channel, “Boldyak TV.”
Robles’ complaint highlights that Maharlika posted over 20 videos falsely accusing him and his family of serious crimes, including contract killing, assisting terrorists, and stealing from the Filipino people. Additionally, Maharlika allegedly posted images of the Robleses’ minor daughter without regard for the potential harm and safety risks to the family. These actions have caused significant fear and concern, especially for Robles’ wife, Sherwil, regarding their children’s safety.
“In more than 20 separate videos that were posted to the Internet and made available to the public, Ms. Contreras falsely accused the Robleses of everything from contract killing and assisting terrorists to stealing from the Filipino people,” the complaint noted.
Robles asserts that this legal action is necessary to defend his name and integrity from Maharlika’s unfounded accusations. Previously a supporter of UniTeam, Maharlika has turned into a critic of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. This lawsuit underscores the ongoing tension and legal battles faced by public figures and their families in the face of defamatory online content.
Meanwhile, defamation involves making false statements that harm someone’s reputation, leading to reputational damage and potential financial loss. It can occur through spoken (slander) or written (libel) statements. Invasion of privacy refers to the unauthorized intrusion into an individual’s personal life, which can include disclosing private information, misappropriating their likeness, or surveilling them without consent.
Such complaints often seek legal redress for damages caused by these breaches, including emotional distress and harm to one’s personal or professional reputation. Legal actions aim to stop the harmful behavior and provide compensation for the damages suffered.
