Mark Alcala, Lucena Mayor, No Comment on Courting Kathryn Bernardo
MARK ALCALA – The mayor of Lucena has remained silent about rumors claiming he is courting Outstanding Asian Star Kathryn Bernardo. Showbiz insider Ogie Diaz attempted to get a statement from Alcala by messaging him on Messenger, but Alcala reportedly ignored the inquiries.
During the latest episode of “Showbiz Updates” on August 4, Ogie mentioned that Alcala’s initial response was an apology for being busy with the State of the City Address (SOCA), but he did not address the courtship rumors.
“Syempre mine-message ko sa kaniyang Messenger si Mayor. Tinanong ko na nga tungkol doon […] Walang sinabi. Dedma,” Ogie said. “No’ng una, sabi ko: ‘Mayor, dedma, ha. Hahahaa. So, sumagot siya: ‘Sorry, Tito, medyo busy. SOCA [State of the City Address] ako tomorrow,’” he added.
Ogie further pressed Alcala on whether he was indeed pursuing Kathryn, but there was no response from the Mayor. This speculation started after a recent article from the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) suggested that Alcala might be the new suitor of Bernardo.
Meanwhile, Mark Alcala is the youngest mayor of Lucena City, having been elected on May 9, 2022, succeeding his father, Roderick Dondon Alcala, who is now the city’s vice mayor. He comes from a politically active family, including his mother, Maggie Benitez-Alcala, and his sisters, Donne Marie Victor Alcala-Guyett and Graciel Dawn Victor B. Alcala. He studied at La Salle Greenhills, College of St. Benilde, and De La Salle University, where he earned a degree in Business Management.
In sports, Alcala has made a name for himself as a basketball player, having played professionally with the Quezon Huskers in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). Standing at 6 feet tall, he excelled as a point guard.
His political career includes roles as a Youth Ambassador for the Local Youth Development Council and an executive assistant for the City Mayor’s Office. As mayor, he has focused on economic growth and improved public services in Lucena City. His personal life, including rumored relationships with actress Ashley Ortega and volleyball player Mika Reyes, has garnered media attention, and he is currently speculated to be dating actress Kathryn Bernardo.
