Gladys Reyes Joins MTRCB Appeals Committee
GLADYS REYES – The actress took her oath at Malacañang Palace on August 14, 2024, as a newly appointed member of the Appeals Committee of the MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board) under the Office of the President. The ceremony was officiated by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
Gladys shared photos and reels from the event on Facebook, expressing her gratitude to designer Vidal Clayton for creating her modern Filipiniana outfit. She appreciated the designer’s effort given the short notice and lack of preparation time.
Accompanying Gladys were her mother, Zeny Reyes, and her sister, Janice Paras. Unfortunately, her husband and children could not attend due to their current residence in Australia. Gladys expressed her regret at their absence and sought divine guidance for her new role. She also extended thanks to her fellow Committee on Appeals members, led by Asec. Atty. Jeffrey Gallardo, for their support.
In her communication with PEP.ph, Gladys clarified that the Committee on Appeals operates independently from the MTRCB and is directly under the Office of the President. This is why MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto was not present at the ceremony. Gladys mentioned that the committee includes lawyers and other members she has yet to meet, with Asec. Attorney Jeffrey Gallardo serving as the chairman.
Gladys noted that she recently learned about the schedule for her oath-taking, despite having submitted her credentials as early as April. She described the appointment process as lengthy, involving a profile submission detailing her TV career.
Gladys expressed satisfaction with her new role, preferring it over her previous position as an MTRCB board member. She noted that the new role allows her to continue working while focusing on handling appeals, as opposed to the review work required in her past position. The meetings for her new role are mostly held at Malacañang, though occasional visits to the MTRCB for dialogues with Chair Lala Sotto are also planned.
