Carlos Edriel Poquiz Yulo, born on February 16, 2000, in Malate, Manila, is a prominent Filipino artistic gymnast. Known as “Caloy,” Yulo is celebrated for his achievements on the international gymnastics stage. Standing at 1.50 meters tall, he trains in Tokyo, Japan, under coach Aldrin Castañeda.
Yulo made history as the first Filipino gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal, securing victories in the floor exercise and vault at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This achievement made him the first Filipino male gymnast to win multiple Olympic gold medals.
His exceptional performance at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships includes two golds (2019, 2021), two silvers (2021, 2022), and two bronzes (2018, 2022). He is also a ten-time Asian champion and a nine-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist.
Early in his career, Yulo competed and excelled in local and junior gymnastics events, including the Palarong Pambansa and the ASEAN School Games. He transitioned to the senior level with notable successes, including a bronze medal at the 2018 World Championships. His breakthrough came in 2019 when he became the first Southeast Asian to win a World Championship gold medal.
