School Personnel Posts Applicant’s Report Card: “The Student Has Stellar Grades but Reads at Snail’s Pace”

School Personnel Posts Applicant’s Report Card “Grades are not everything”

A school personnel has posted the report card of a student applying for a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) course.

Recently, MaRose Rodriguez, a Facebook user, uploaded the applicant’s report card, noting the student’s excellent academic performance. The post emphasizes the student’s impressive grades but pointed out significant struggles with basic English skills and reading pace.

Despite the stellar grades, the student had difficulty forming English sentences and reading at a slow pace. Additionally, the student’s responses to essay questions showed a misunderstanding of even the simplest instructions.

Many were surprised that such a highly-rated student faced challenges with fundamental skills.

The situation became even more complicated when the student’s mother contacted the registrar to complain about the rejection of her “intelligent” child. She expressed frustration over her child’s non-acceptance, despite the impressive grades.

The school’s registrar’s office has been flooded with similar cases this month, with many tears and complaints about admissions decisions. However, the school has maintained its stance, emphasizing that grades alone are not sufficient to ensure admission.

They stressed that real education involves more than just academic performance.

The post emphasizes a broader issue within the educational system, suggesting that academic success does not always equate to comprehensive understanding and skills. The incident shows a larger problem in education, where students may excel in exams but struggle with essential life skills.

Here is the report card of an applicant to our BSHM course and one of that student’s answer to an essay question. The student has stellar grades on the report card, but struggles to string together a simple sentence in English, reads at a snail’s pace, and misinterprets even the simplest instructions. After getting an email of non-acceptance, the mother called the registrar to complain why her “intelligent” child was not accepted. We have seen so much “drama” in our registrar’s office this month, with tears flowing. But No, we are standing by our ground. We are a private school after all. Students and parents should realize that grades are not everything, real education is so much more. This isn’t just an isolated case. Many of them are like this. It’s a symptom of a larger issue in our educational system. This post is not about blaming teachers or students. It’s about hoping to wake everyone to the crisis in our educational system. I think this issue is more important than the price of rice.”
