Sen. Risa Hontiveros Reacts To Mayor Alice Guo’s Statement on Senators
RISA HONTIVEROS – The Senator reacted to the statement of suspended Mayor Alice Guo that the senators are fixated on her and must focus on other national issues instead.
One of the most popular politicians in the Philippines now is suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo. She is currently facing several allegations about her identity and her alleged involvement in the Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in her town.
Mayor Guo attended the previous Senate hearings but skipped the two latest hearings set on June 26 and July 10. According to Guo’s lawyer Stephen David, the Mayor was “traumatized” by the treatment to her and physically and emotionally drained from the many accusations against her.
The Senate released an arrest order against Guo following her absence from the hearings set by the upper chamber. She was cited for contempt by the committee and Senate President Chiz Escudero signed the release of an arrest order against the suspended Mayor.
The upper chamber’s Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms was tasked to serve the arrest order within 24 hours. However, there are speculations that Mayor Alice Guo is now hiding to evade arrest. The authorities found negative presence in all the registered addresses of the Mayor including her farm.
Amid an ongoing pursuit for her arrest, Mayor Alice Guo released a statement. She stressed that she is ready to face the allegations against her if there is an evidence at a proper forum. The suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor also advised the senators that there are other critical national issues that they must focus on.
Guo raised questions asking if she is the Philippines’ biggest problem. According to her, she refuses to be used for the political ambitions of other people. She asked why the lawmakers seemed fixated on her.
Recently, Sen. Risa Hontiveros who is one of those leading the investigation reacted to the statement of Mayor Alice Guo. Based on an article on GMA News, she stressed that the lawmakers are fixated on her as they are just allergic to liars.
“Huwag kayong mag-alala, hindi kami fixated sa’yo. Allergic lang kami sa mga sinungaling,” Hontiveros said.
Sen. Risa Hontiveros who leads the Senate investigation in the raided POGO in Tarlac also slammed the move of Mayor Alice Guo to issue statements through Facebook. Addressed to the suspended Mayor, she told her that she has more Facebook post than Senate hearing attendance.
“So sadly for you, hindi katumbas ng attendance mo sa Senado ang maya’t-maya mong pagso-social media,” the lawmaker said.
Furthermore, based on the report, Hontiveros asked Guo how she can have peace of mind if she is always evading the questions. In her statement, the Mayor said that she is prioritizing her peace of mind and her health now after she was severely exhausted by the previous Senate hearings.
Sen. Risa Hontiveros reminded Mayor Alice Guo that she is called by the Senate because of the illegal POGO operations in her town. She also stressed that the Mayor lied on her connection to POGO, her identity, and allegedly everytime she log in on Facebook.
