While Reporting, a Reporter in Taiwan Was Knocked Down by Strong Winds
TAIWAN – A reporter was knocked down by strong winds while reporting at Taipei Station during a typhoon.
Typhoon Gaemi has struck China after causing severe damage in Taiwan. In Taiwan, the storm led to widespread flooding, power outages, and at least three deaths. Emergency responses have been activated in Fujian, where flights and trains have been canceled and more than 240,000 people have been displaced from their homes.
Before reaching China, Gaemi had already caused significant destruction in the Philippines, claiming 22 lives due to flooding and landslides aggravated by heavy monsoon rains. This brought the total death toll from the typhoon to 25. On Thursday morning, a cargo ship off Taiwan and an oil tanker near the Philippines sank in the stormy seas.
In the Philippines, authorities are urgently searching for a missing crew member and working to contain a major oil spill heading towards Manila. In Taiwan, the storm had already caused two deaths on Wednesday, and a 78-year-old man was killed by a mudslide on Thursday afternoon. Additionally, 380 people were reported injured.
As Typhoon Gaemi continues its path, it is expected to bring heavy rains to inland areas of China, including Beijing, which has already experienced prolonged rainfall.
Meanwhile, a reporter in Taiwan was knocked down by strong winds while reporting at Taipei Station during the typhoon. Despite being blown off his feet, he quickly got up and continued his report. The incident was captured on video and shared on X, noting the challenging conditions due to the sidewalk being paved with bathroom tiles.
“Reporter gets knocked down by Typhoon winds at Taipei Station. It doesn’t help that sidewalks in Taipei are paved with bathroom tiles,” @foreignersinTW noted in the caption. The video went viral, garnering mixed reactions from netizens.
