OVP – The Office of the Vice President issued a statement confirming the departure of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte amid the wrath of Typhoon Carina.

Typhoon Carina left several cities and municipalities in the Philippines flooded. Prior to its entry to the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), it was forecasted to have the capacity to turn into a super typhoon. The storm brought heavy rains and strong winds most especially in Luzon.

Thousands of families were displaced from their homes amid the wrath of Typhoon Carina. The natural calamity destroyed houses and livelihoods of countless Filipinos. Fatalities were also recorded in several cities and municipalities across the nation.

However, amid the wrath of Typhoon Carina in the Philippines, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte earned bashing from some netizens. It was after reports that she left the country while the storm was lashing at Metro Manila crossed the surface.

Rumors had it that Vice Pres. Duterte flew to Germany with her immediate family and her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman. Photos of the Vice President with her face almost covered by her hoodie jacket and a face mask also went trending online.

Meanwhile, on the other side of bashing, there were also those netizens who defended Duterte. Some netizens expressed their belief that the Vice President has the right to spend some personal time with her family and the timing of the planned event and the onslaught of the typhoon is beyond her expectation.

Recently, the Office of the Vice President issued a statement amid the public confusion on whether or not Vice Pres. Sara Duterte flew overseas. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the OVP confirmed that the Vice President flew abroad but did not disclose the details about her destination.

According to the OVP, Vice Pres. Duterte is on a “personal trip with her family overseas”. Her office also stated that her travel abroad got the required approvals as the Office of the President has issued her a travel authority dated last July 9, 2024.

Based on the report, the office of Vice Pres. Duterte admitted that the timing of her trip was “unfortunate” but assured that the Disaster Operations Center was institutionalized by the Vice President and can operate even if she’s in abroad right now.

The OVP thanked the public for respecting the privacy of the other family members of Vice Pres. Duterte. As of this writing, Vice Pres. Duterte has not personally spoken on the issue and might have yet to come home to the Philippines.
